Truecaller Lite Launches in India With Spam Protection for Low-Memory Android Phones
Truecaller Lite has launched in India with a 10 MB Android app designed for phones with up to 4 GB RAM. Discover how the lightweight application brings caller ID and spam protection to devices with limited storage.
The new app uses the same scam intelligence that identified more than 68 billion spam and fraud calls in 2025, extending Truecaller's call protection capabilities to users whose devices struggle to accommodate larger applications.
The launch comes as India approaches its busiest shopping season, when scam calls involving fake delivery notifications, fraudulent offers and KYC-related fraud tend to increase. For millions of users, smartphones used for payments, deliveries and staying connected with family members also face storage constraints as festive photographs, videos and forwarded messages accumulate.
Truecaller said many users had requested a lighter version of its app. Truecaller Lite has been developed to address those requirements, allowing users to access call protection without competing for limited storage space.
Unlike a reduced version of the company's main application, Truecaller Lite is a separate native Android app developed from the ground up for smartphones with less memory and processing power. It draws on the same Truecaller database and detection systems and follows the same privacy standards as the main app.
According to the company, this means the protection against spam and fraud calls offered by Truecaller Lite is the same as that available through the main application.
The app provides caller identification before users answer incoming calls and allows them to block spam and fraud calls using signals from Truecaller's global community. Users can also use it as their dialer, bringing call history, contacts and number search together in one place.
An after-call screen also allows users to see who they have just spoken to, covering both incoming and outgoing calls.
Truecaller Lite maintains its smaller size by focusing on essential calling and protection features. It uses less storage, memory and data and is designed to remain responsive even when a smartphone is running low on available space.
Features including messaging, voicemail, Family Protection and the AI assistant are not included in the Lite app, keeping its size and performance requirements limited.
“Scammers don't check what phone you have before they call, and protection should not depend on it either,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO, Truecaller.
“I have seen many people with older or basic Android phones struggling with heavy apps. Plus, so many people in India told us they wanted Truecaller but they either did not have the storage space for it or that didn’t work smoothly. Truecaller Lite is built for exactly those phones: it’s the same protection from spam and fraud, in an app small enough to fit and fast enough to stay out of the way,” he said.
Truecaller Lite is available to download for free from the Google Play Store in India for Android phones with up to 4 GB of RAM. The app is rolling out in phases and is expected to reach eligible devices over the coming weeks.
The application is available exclusively on Android.
Truecaller is an essential part of everyday communication for more than 500 million active users worldwide and has recorded over a billion downloads since its launch. The company identified 68 billion spam and fraud calls in 2025 alone.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Truecaller has been publicly listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since October 2021. More information is available at www.truecaller.com.
